Miami-based Haitian-American artist Serge Toussaint created Welcome to Miami Worldcenter in 2023 as part of the public art initiative at Miami Worldcenter. The large-scale mural is based on a photograph by Miami photographer Kevin Jimenez of Polakev Photography, capturing the city’s iconic skyline. The original image features key structures within the Miami Worldcenter development, including the Paramount Miami Worldcenter, Caoba Apartments, and Bezel Tower—all hallmarks of the downtown core’s rapid vertical transformation.

An artist well-known for his vibrant, accessible style and contributions to South Florida’s visual identity, particularly in historically Black neighborhoods like Liberty City and Little Haiti. He has become one of the region’s most prolific public muralists, often blending realism with symbolism to celebrate cultural pride, civic identity, and community resilience. According to a 2020 interview with The New York Times, Toussaint describes his work as “a way of giving back to the community and telling our story on the walls of the city.” His signature approach incorporates detailed brushwork, vivid palettes, and a commitment to visibility for underrepresented voices.

In Welcome to Miami Worldcenter, Toussaint reinterprets Jimenez’s cityscape with his own stylistic flourishes, using bright colors and painterly techniques that reflect both the optimism and complexity of Miami’s growth. Positioned within one of the largest private urban real estate developments in the U.S., the mural serves not only as a tribute to the city’s architectural expansion but also as an affirmation of the local cultural narrative that shapes Miami’s evolving identity.

Miami Worldcenter’s $5 million public art program—curated in part by Primary Projects and Jeffrey Deitch—aims to create meaningful access to art in public spaces by working with both globally recognized and locally significant artists. Toussaint’s mural plays a vital role in that mission, celebrating the city’s diversity while anchoring the development in a deeply rooted local voice.
